1. Gather Your Players

First and foremost—you must have a pool of players. The program begins with 456 players, but don’t panic, you won’t require so many! Based on your room and available resources, 10-30 players can create an optimal amount of competition and fun. Ensure everyone is familiar with the rules and prepared for some serious challenges.

2. Pick a Game Master

Every Squid Game needs a host—the person who oversees the games, explains the rules, and ensures fair play. If you’re hosting, be the Game Master yourself or assign someone to take on the role. Bonus points if they dress up like the masked guards from the show!

3. Set Up the Games

Now, it’s time for the action! Here’s an explanation of the traditional Squid Game challenges and how you can safely recreate them.

Red Light, Green Light

Choose a big playing area. One person (the Game Master) stands at the finish line and yells “Green Light” or “Red Light.”

Players advance on “Green Light” and have to stand still on “Red Light.” Anyone who moves after “Red Light” is out.

Winner takes all by reaching the finish line first!

Dalgona Candy Challenge

Prepare sugar candies in various shapes (umbrella, star, circle, triangle).

Players randomly choose a candy and have 10 minutes to dissect the shape by using a toothpick or a needle.

In case the candy is broken, they are eliminated!

Tug of War

Utilize a sturdy rope and split players into two groups.

Teams should then pull their counterparts beyond the middle line.

The losing team loses, while the winners proceed to the next round.

Marbles Game

All players receive 10 marbles. They need to form couples and play any marble game of their choice (e.g., odd/even, closest to the wall, guessing games).

The winner earns all the marbles of their opponent, while the loser loses.

Glass Bridge (Safe Version)

Make a “bridge” out of paper, foam tiles, or stepping stones. Label some “safe” and others “falling” platforms.

Players need to cross over by standing on the correct ones. Decide ahead of time which tiles will “break” when someone stands on them.

When a player steps on an incorrect tile, they’re out!

Final Round: The Squid Game

Draw a large playing area with a triangle, circle, and square on the floor.

One is the attacker, and the other is the defender.

The attacker needs to get to the circle at the top while the defender attempts to prevent them.

The one who gets to the goal or defeats their opponent is the winner!

4. Create Fair Rules

Because Squid Game is an elimination game, it’s crucial to define fair rules to maintain a fair game. Determine how eliminated players are recorded and make sure everyone knows the risks of rule-breaking.

5. Include a Prize for the Winner

A competition without a prize? The original Squid Game had a huge cash prize, but you can make it fun with a trophy, cash prize, or even an enigmatic prize. This makes players want to do their best.

The Real-Life Thrill of Squid Game

Playing Squid Game in real life brings the adrenaline, strategy, and tension of the show—but in a safe, controlled environment.

Whether you’re organizing it for a party, a school event, or just for fun, it’s an unforgettable experience. The key is to keep the excitement high while ensuring fairness and safety.

Would you risk attempting the Squid Game challenge? Invite your friends over, lay out the games, and observe who makes it to the end?
